A young child may feel like they were made to feel like a bad person, or the result of having a parent who didn’t care about them. People who have trouble with depression are usually the result of a parent or sibling who was a very controlling, manipulative, or abusive person. DURKIN.

She was raised in a very controlling family. She was abused as a child and then her parents were so controlling and manipulative that she grew up with the belief that she was worthless and was destined to be a caretaker for her family. As a child, she was teased and bullied because she was different and she was “different.

She’s also been through a lot of trauma. Her mother was a crack addict, her father was a very abusive man who has since passed, and her brother is a recovering alcoholic. All of that makes her very vulnerable and open to negative influences. Her father’s drinking drove her and her brother to the point where they needed to leave, just so they could be closer to each other and to his friends. She was, is, and always will be a very independent person.

Her father, a former Marine, was in the process of getting divorced and moved to Australia. He and his wife had a very difficult divorce. It was at a point where they were going to split up, but he didn’t have the means to pay his $40,000 Australian divorce settlement. He would have been out of work and living on the streets (which is what happened to her then) if his ex hadn’t been willing to settle.

There is a very strong theme of independence and independence was what she wanted from her life. She loved having her own space and being able to do the things that she wanted without having to rely on anyone but herself. She was very independent and she loved that, but she also hated that she had to rely on anyone else for money, which was one of the reasons she didn’t want to stay in Australia.

At the end of the day it’s important to be free from dependence too. We’ve seen too many stories of young women being forced into prostitution and we need to remember that there are a lot of women who have been forced into prostitution and they are not all bad people. They are not all just trying to escape poverty and abuse. They are forced into prostitution because they simply want to do something else with their lives.
