By Hello Claire! This is a lovely surprise for the birthday girl of one of my clients today. She is a sweet girl who loves to cook and would much rather be in the kitchen cooking than sitting in a cubicle and watching TV.
I should say that she was a client of mine as well, so when we met she was already a client. We were both surprised when she called to ask for a favor of mine. Now, I’m not going to lie.
She actually called me earlier this morning, to ask for my birthday. She said she would give me a call if I wanted her to call me back. The phone was so convenient that she just hung up. I’m not even sure what she said, because she had to use my phone to call me back, too.
Claire Rock Smith is an author, radio host, and podcast host, and she is also the creator of The Life of Clio podcast. She is the best friend of my wife, Sarah, and a dear friend to my daughter, Chloe. She is one of those rare women in my life who is as smart and talented as her husband, and I have no doubt that at some point in the future, I will be lucky enough to share a birthday with her.
My wife and I did not actually end our phone call to share birthday greetings, but we do hope she and Chloe enjoyed the conversation. She did: “I love you so very much and I don’t want to forget that you are loved in so many ways, and I hope that someday you remember that.” And Chloe did: “I love you so much, and you are so amazing. I wish I could be there when you get married someday.
So, today was a lovely day to share with my daughter. I did not get to celebrate my birthday with her, but I have my own plans for the weekend. In the mean time, I want to wish everyone a happy birthday.

The main reason I love you so much is the way you make it to the party. You are a great example of what I’ve been working towards for a long time and are making my life a bit easier for you. I will always be grateful for your support.
That’s nice, but it’s also really important to acknowledge the gratitude that you’re already giving us. That’s the kind of gift that you can always count on, and it can’t really be replaced at all, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
