Like any good sci-fi movie, Deathloop is full of cool characters and plenty of action, but it’s also full of its own sense of familiarity. We’ve seen a lot of other games make the same trick of introducing a new character at the end of the movie to show that they’re the ones who keep the loop going, but no one has made a horror game like Deathloop do that. Instead it’s the people in the crowd who keep the loop going.
This is a great example of how we can use the people in our lives to be in the loop. The game’s story is based on things that have happened to people we’ve known, but it starts by introducing Oliver Moy, a new character who we’re introduced to by his friends as a new member of the Deathloop crowd. We see him in his first scene by looking out a window at the ocean, and in his last scene by looking out a window at the sky.
Oliver Moy was a bit of a puzzle, so that first scene is a bit strange. But once his friends bring him to the island, he’s suddenly a lot more like the people in our lives. He’s friendly and fun, but he never quite fits right into our lives. So as he’s trying to get into the loop, he’s in a bit of a limbo state, which is why he’s wearing the same jeans all the time.
I don’t know if anyone has said this, but Oliver Moy is the last of the old-school pirates we’ve known. He’s the captain of Black Pearl, the ship that brought us Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. He’s still a pirate and still a badass, but this is the first time we’ve seen him in his full Pirate form.
Its no secret that Oliver Moy is one of the more beloved characters in the Pirates universe. So, as we all know, he gets a lot of hate for being the last of the pirates, but that’s okay. We love him. He’s awesome.
