sarah jade bleau is one of my favorite artists. I often find myself picking up her paintings in places I haven’t been, and I have to admit, I do have a soft spot for her. I am also a big fan of her work, and I also have a soft spot for her husband, Ben Bleau, who paints in the same style. Ben is the only one of my friends, other than my husband, who really knows how to paint.
Ben has been a big fan of sarah jade bleau ever since I met her back in the beginning of March. She had a few things to say about the project, and when I got a chance to interview her last week, we talked about how she got to where she is today, and she took the time to describe the process of painting her works. I have to admit, I was a little shocked by how much detail she went into.
Sarah has been painting for 10 years or so, and I don’t think she ever really “got it” until recently. I asked her what her favorite color was and she replied, “Violet.” I was a little taken aback. Violet, eh? What a strange color. That’s about as close to “I don’t know” as I’ve seen in a long time.
Violet is actually the first color I ever bought my studio. In fact, I still have my old palette from my first studio, and I still have a pile of colors from that time. I was using them to help me select colors for my current work, because Violet is the color of art. I have only seen Violet in use once, and it was in the art classes I took at the beginning of my studio.
